A world without music.

The title looked scary, didn’t it? For people like me who can’t go on a day without listening to their favorite songs, this situation is practically unimaginable. Thinking about the world without music paints quite a scary picture for me, which is ironically accompanied by a conjuring background score. But for those who aren’t that much into music, is this a possibility?

Let’s see. When I say no music, I mean not even those ringtones that we have in our phones, no rhythms and no rhymes. So waking up to an alarm would be a thing of past. There will only be news channels on television, and in case the Daily soaps or sitcoms are still there, the dialogues would not even be half as interesting. There will be movies, but they’ll either be mute like they used to be back in the nineteenth century, or without any kind of background score. Now Hans Zimmer and A.R Rahman fans would know what it is like to watch a movie with no background score. Imagine a movie like Gravity or Intersteller, or the dark knight for that matter, with no music. Batman isn’t that great a character now, is he?

And that’s not it, everything around us has music. From the ruffling of leaves to the chirping of birds, from the sound of water to the little noise those crickets make at night, it is all musical. There’s music in the trees when they sway, there’s music in the air when it blows, hell… there’s music in the silence too, it just needs the right listener.

So when you think about the world without music, think again, think of everything that you’d be losing. And I’m not talking about the sounds or plain noise, but the things that please the ears and create a rhythm our brain develops a liking for. A world without music would be a world without Clapton, Presley or Bowie. It would be a world where nobody will have an escape from the reality, even for a moment. It would be a world where there will be pain, and sadness, but no music to give you the courage to face it all. A world without music would be a world without life, a place where you breathe, but don’t live.

I cannot stress enough on how important this one thing is for us. Not money, not any kind of materialistic reward can ever be enough to replace music from our life. And I’m at a loss of words to show how much it means to me. But as Hans Christian Anderson very aptly puts, where words fail, music speaks. So I’ll give you a small task. Imagine if you could play one and only one song throughout your life, which song would that be? Once you listen to it now, you’ll realize the emotion that went behind this post.

Making life Fantastico!

No matter what you do, what you like and where you live, none of it will be worth it if you can’t answer this one question positively… Is your life Fantastico or not?

These are the words said by a great man, who is also the author of this blog. Well, maybe not great, but above average… Or maybe not… You know what? Let’s not get into the technicalities, shall we?

Before I tell you more, let me give the credits to the all new Tata Zica for the word fantastico, which is on its way to become my second favorite word after Awesome, much like the Zica which is my second favorite car right now!  (The first one will always be bat-mobile, right?)

So what is fantastico? Well, in terms of cars, it is most definitely an amazing and confident exterior, great mileage, a powerful engine, high tech specs and a spacious design… something the Zica is all about. And the analogy of all this with us humans is uncanny.

Think about it. Don’t we all need it? A confident exterior; so that all those meetings you go to, all those presentations you give and the tests you take, you ace them all. Was that possible without confidence?

A great mileage; because if you don’t have the energy to go on all day without getting tired, you’re facing fatigue, which is not at all good for you or your body.

A powerful engine; well, you do need strength to face the tough competition this world gives you in order for you to succeed.

High tech; because no matter who you are, it’s your smart phone that is going to give you the advantage you never had.

And a spacious design… Well I got nothing here, but you get the drift.

My point is that there’s just so much one can do to make the lives of himself and others around him, awesome. And if your life is awesome, you are Fantastico, isn’t it?

Being fantastico is not just about having great things in your life; it’s about being able to live your life the way you want. It’s about being in a state where nothing can disturb the happiness that you have. It’s not about having everything; it’s about making the best use of what you have.

I’d end this with a quote from a very famous movie that Bollywood gave us, 3 idiots, “Don’t chase success, chase excellence, success will automatically follow you”, and it stands true for being fantastico too; you don’t have to put an effort to be fantastico, you just need to live your life your way and your life will be Fantastico before you know it. Don’t trust me? Try it yourself. Goodluck! J

Your guide to being peppy.

The dictionary defines the word peppy as “Live and high spirited”, or something that’s marked by lively action. So going by the definition, I guess we all need some amount of peppiness in our lives, don’t we? And to put that up as an even more important question, how did we lose the peppiness? And the answer to that lies in our fast paced lives where we don’t have time for the little things that give us the real pleasure.

So what can we do to make our lives peppy again? Well, that’s pretty simple if you think about it. You just need to take some out and give it to one of the important persons in your life, yourself.

Let’s begin with the most basic of all, wake up early. I have been advocating that for quite some time on this blog, and trust me, there’s no replacement to that. Try and wake up early one day, freshen up, do some stretching, go out for a walk and take a look at those trees and the chirping birds. Tell me if that doesn’t fill you up with energy!

Hit the gym. Seriously, do it. When you run on that treadmill while Nirvana plays in the background or you do crunches while looking at some hot girl is doing her Zumba, what could be peppier than that? Well, jokes apart, exercise, don’t be a perv.

Refresh that playlist. Yep, I agree that everybody listens to songs, but refresh your playlist and get rid of the same old songs and put up some new fusion music. That ought to help you break the monotony.

Check the diet. No, I’m not asking you to go on a diet or stop eating, but add some cool juices and fruits to your supper and you have a day filled with energy served right to you.

Reunion!!! Yes, a reunion is what you need. Because in my experience, there’s not a single person who can stay quite or show a lack of energy when he meets his old school/college friends. In my case that’s the time we have cops chasing us. Just kidding. Or am I?

Dance it out! C’mon, we’re being peppy here. Put on your dancing shoes or go barefoot, but hit that floor and dance it out. There’s no better feeling than that.

Parties aren’t made for Fridays! Although your job might not allow this, but taking a break every now and then isn’t bad. So go ahead, taka a day and partayyyy! (Well, not in a lame way like that sentence.)

Bunk. Yes… Be peppier than one can imagine. Everybody bunks college, you bunk your office too. And go backpacking. It will only take a day or two, but the memories are going to stay for the rest of your life.

Get a car that is as peppy as you. Or the one that makes you as peppy as it already is. And do I need to spell it out for you? The name is ZICA!

So that’s about it. If this post wasn’t peppy enough for you, try eating some chilly. 😉

I heard the word music, and now I’m here!

Let me tell you what happens when we listen to music. When that first beat reaches our eardrums, they vibrate, telling our brain about yet another thing that they heard, just that this time there was a rhythm, something our brain would comprehend more easily than a normal sentence. And then once our mind gets the hang of it, its frequency matches with that of the music and it starts resonating.

So you may like this kind of music or that kind of music, but you simply cannot dislike music. Music makes us complete, music makes us human, and if I may say it out loud, a person’s taste in music is more or less enough to define his personality. And why not, after all we encounter music in all spheres of life. Our life starts with the music that we fondly call crying, although it does bring a smile on our parents’ face, then we move on to the nursery rhyme, covering the pop songs as we grow up in our teens and before we know it, we have adults fighting over Iron maiden and Metallica.

For me, music has always been surprising. I never imagined that I would develop a liking for so many kinds of music. May it be Pop or Rock, country or classical, I never had an extreme point of view for it. For me, music always had something to teach. From classical I learned the patience, which is one asset that most men don’t have. From rock I learned how to express myself, how to control (or not control) my emotions. Pop taught me the importance of love and friendship, and it was rap from which I… well… learned to speak English very fast.

Music is with you all the time, like when you take a bath and play your favorite playlist, or when you’re cooking while listening to Pink Floyd, or while driving your Tata Zica and playing Eric Clapton’s best!

What I want to convey here is that no music is bad music, unless it’s a very bad copy of some original harmony, or forcing loud words just to make it sound like a party song, which is basically a general definition of bad. Music isn’t a means to divide people, it unites people! Music brings people together (Have you ever been to an Iron maiden concert?), music brings nations together (Coke studio!), music brings the worlds together (Koi mil gaya… well, maybe not.)

So the next time you meet someone and he tells you that he likes Raps while you don’t, appreciate the fact that he does. You can’t force music on someone, let the beats do it naturally.

Oh, and also, stop pirating music, that’s the least you can do for something that’s with you whole your life!
